Siblingship Test Methods
Types of Siblingship Tests
Two different levels of Siblingship DNA testing is available:
- PCR Method: This basic testing method analyzes 15 different genetic sites and is the standard testing method.
- RFLP Method: This more extensive testing method analyzes more than 15 genetic sites and provides more genetic information, which will improve accuracy of the test. This is an add on to the PCR Method, meaning it is "in addition to" the PCR Method.
About Siblingship Test Results
The laboratory will determine the genetic profile of the Possible Siblings using a DNA Index. If the Full-Siblingship (both share the same two Parents) index is less than 1.00, it indicates that there does not exist a Sibling relationship. If the index is greater than 1.00, it indicates that the tested individuals are most likely biological Siblings. The higher value the DNA index, the greater the percentage of Siblingship. A Half-Siblingship (both share one common parent) index is also used to determine the ratio of a half Siblingship versus a full Siblingship.
How accurate is a Siblingship Test?
Test accuracy is based on solely on the genetic information found within the tested individuals. Since Siblings have the same Parent(s), they have matching genes much more often than do two unrelated individuals. When matches between two potential Siblings are found, calculations are made to determine the probability that a Sibling relationship exists. For this reason, the laboratory encourages the testing of additional family members, if available, in addition to the Possible Siblings, to order to improve the ease and accuracy of the test. (If two or more people suspect themselves as siblings, one way to find conclusive results is to be tested against the Possbile Common Mother or Father, if they are available to donate samples.) However, in the case of adopted individuals, especially from another country, it is not required.
Therefore: Unlike Paternity or Maternity Tests, a Siblingship Test cannot be determined as conclusive (certain). Instead, the laboratory breaks down the genetic profile of each individual and determines the probability of relationship.
DNA Identifiers' Siblingship Tests are the most advanced, accurate, state of the art genetic tests available today. Our results are obtained using strict chain of custody documentation and are notarized and guaranteed for accuracy. The level of accuracy is over one million times greater than most State and Federal Government standards and is significantly better than tests performed by other labortories.
DNA Identifiers offers both Court Admissible Legal DNA Tests and Non-Legal Home Kits. If you need a Court Admissible Test, DNA Identifiers will make an appointment to meet you at a safe location of your choice, most likely your home or lawyer's office. Our unique service will save you time, money, gas, travel expenses and the hassle of fighting traffic and driving long distances. Plus, all DNA samples are painlessly obtained using a cheek swab (special cotton swab), not a blood draw.
